What is a Turkish towel?

WHAT MAKES A TURKISH TOWEL DIFFERENT TO A TRADITIONAL BEACH TOWEL?
Turkish towels have been made and used in Turkey for many, many years. Traditionally they were used as hammam towels, but over the years people have taken Turkish towels out into the world and into their homes. Due to their origins, Turkish towels are often referred to as hammam towels, but you may also hear them being called a peshtemal, a fouta towel or futa towel (if they’ve been made in Tunisia rather than Turkey).
If you’ve looked around at a few different Turkish towels already, you’ll have noticed they come in many designs. As the cotton fibres are woven together to create the design, a unique texture and thickness is created, resulting in each Edition feeling slightly different. At Terzi Editions we sell four different ranges to help you find the design and texture that you like best.
Whatever you call them and whatever the style, there are a few fundamental things that will always be the same.

LIGHTWEIGHT & COMPACT
Our towels fold down smaller than an average towel which makes them the perfect option if you’re short on space. More and more people are buying a Turkish towel to take with them as a beach towel when they head off on holiday or a gym towel when they’re at home.

RAPID DRY
Sorry no fancy engineering here - it's the cotton fibres that make Turkish towels faster drying than a traditional beach towel. The cottons used in Turkish towels tend to have a longer thread and are woven into a flatter formation than the looped design of a traditional bath towel or beach towel.

versatile
The flatter weave of a Turkish towel means that sand drops off them quickly and easily making them the perfect beach towel.
But we also use them as gym towels, picnic blankets and even sarongs.
